Woodcarving
From the 17th to the 19th century Chios had a strong tradition in the creation of wood carved temples (Templon) used in churches. Their characteristic was the representation of Christ Crucified at the top of the templon. The most important examples of the art can be found in the Church of Taxiarchis in Mesta village (1833) and in the Church of Agios Demetrios in Vessa (1840 – 1841).
