The
journey down the dirt path road from Kambia to the village of Leptopoda is
one that touches upon three separate senses: seeing, smelling and hearing.
Nature lovers venturing into the unknown can only appreciate the
enticing beauty, sensuous fragrance and melody in the air.
Upon arrival, visitors will be rewarded with an exquisite,
breathtaking view of rich, deep blue waters from the “Balcony of the
Aegean.” |

| The old village was built in the northern segment of today’s village near Emvolos. The houses are connected, one right next to the other in such a way as to “build” or create a wall that protected the residents in times of invasion. The side-by-side rooftops gave residents the opportunity to dash across the series of rooftops in order to escape into the evergreen forest. |
Don’t
miss…
The festival of the Birth of the Theotokos which is held on September 8th of each year. |

The
village’s entrance today maintains an elementary school that is no
longer in operation as well as a church dedicated to the Genisis tis
Theotokou (Birth of the Virgin Mary).
Although the exact date of construction is unknown, it has been
determined that the church was built prior to 1566. Today,
approximately 30 people live in the village Leptopoda in the winter and
the population drops in the summer since the villagers live in their
summer homes in Agiasmata. It
is a village that is worth visiting regardless of its distance. |
