Visitors who are into climbing and mountain hiking will have the chance to see a less known side of Chios, but one which will definitely live up to their expectations.

Climbing

The visitor who wishes to go climbing may follow either itineraries of sports character or adventure routes. The most interesting are in the areas of Kleidou, Rachtis and Anavatos.

Kleidou

In Vrontados, very close to Chios town, there is a water spring, rest area and the Centre of Environmental Education. Three climbing routes of “traditional” character have been opened there at the impressive mountainside.

Kourna Rock

After Karyes village, on the road to Anavatos and a little after the quarry, we leave the main road and we turn left to Pafyllida. South from the Kourna Monastery we can see the rock on the right, next to a small stream. This is an ideal route for summer climbing with a five minute distance from the road to the rock’s base.

Anavatos

This castle village is built on a steep rock, an ideal site for vertical activities.

Mountain hiking

Hiking at Pelinaio, the third highest mountain of the Aegean.
Hiking at Edelos.
Hiking at Oros.
