Gridia and Vokaria : Sunbathing at the beach and ouzo by the sea Featured

At 18 km distance from the city of Chios, lies the village of Nenita, one of the largest and most vibrant mastiha villages. Close to the village are the two small ports Gridia and Vokaria, favorite destinations of the Chiots, every time they want to enjoy an ouzo by the sea.

Vokaria is about two kilometers away from the village of Nenita, while Gridia is further south, at a distance of four kilometers. There are many summer houses and a few rooms to rent. Next to the picturesque harbors with the fishing boats, there are small pebbled beaches, frequented by the locals during the summer months. Although not organized, there are some straw umbrellas, while at Gridia there is also a ramp for people with disabilities.

Both Vokaria and Gridia are gastronomic destinations for the locals, since the taverns there offer excellent seafood. Fresh fish and seafood, shrimp and lobster pasta, traditional “meze” and a glass of ouzo should definitely be in your bucket list for this summer and you won’t regret it. The beach, the taverns and the small port with the fishing boats is the ultimate summer pic and the perfect setting for endless children's games!

Tip:Every year at the Ascension Day (June 6th for this year), the inhabitants of Nenita celebrate in their own unique way: locals riding horses take the icons from the churches of the village to the picturesque church in Gridia , Panagia Agridiotissa. Afterwards they set up a traditional “panigiri” (festival) in the courtyard of the church with local treats and live music.
